Michael Hinman spent 18 years as an award-winning journalist including newspaper, radio and new media.
Growing up in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains in a small Pennsylvania town dedicated to paper manufacturing, Michael saw firsthand what pollution can do to the environment and the people living in it. The foul smell produced by pulping contrasted with the beautiful valley his home town is located. There, cancer rates were well above average.
After moving to Florida in the mid-1990s, Michael found himself caught up in the Water Wars, writing from the Pasco County perspective and covering the event when the Water Wars ended in 1998. He also covered the battle between residents in the small town of Crystal Springs and Zephyrhills Bottled Water, which was looking to extract more water from a natural spring there.
Michael has worked on his own projects as well, creating a popular entertainment news website in 1998. He also is credited with creating the term “SyFy,” which he sold to NBC Universal in 2009 who in turn used the name for one of its popular cable channels.
Michael’s vast experience includes writing, layout design, video, audio and more.
